Fresh look!

I spent a little time yesterday giving the website a fresh update.  My eyes get tired of seeing the same thing all the time.  Even if it looked ok then, it's nice for me to see a change.

I picked up my "leftover" soap from The Funky Barn on Saturday.  Their barn boutique is so cute and fun!  Lots of neat things there.  I wish I could have been there for the live music, but it was 78 miles away, more like a day trip to me.  In fact, I did make a day trip out of it on Saturday with one of my best friends.  It was a beautiful fall day and we just wandered away the day, spent some time in two cute little touristy towns (ok, so I was also on the lookout for some potential new stores to carry soap).  Lots of fun.

The soap that sold out there was Patchouli Lime.  Should have known...Funky Barn...funky soap!  I love the Patchouli Lime too.  When people first asked me to make Patchouli soap, I couldn't stand the smell, but it grew on me and is now one of my favorites.  I made a new batch this weekend that's Patchouli Orange.  Can't wait to try that one out, it smells heavenly in the house.

I feel sorta bad...

My husband can't go hunting without smelling like soap!  Even though he hangs his hunting clothes out in the garage, the scent of soap is just on him.  Actually, it's on all of us because we live amongst it.  But when he walks out in the woods, his hunting partner says he can smell him quite a distance away!  Not good for hunting.  I've suggested that he take some soap shreds out to the woods now and just spread them around so the deer get used to the smell, but he hasn't done it yet.  I guess all I can do is suggest, it's up to him to actually do it.  Which means it probably won't happen, and he'll wonder why he doesn't see a deer again this year...

Our house smells like soap, I don't even burn candles anymore because it always smells good.  If the windows are open I can smell it as soon as I get out of the van.  I absolutely love walking into my "craft room" because it smells even better in there where I have all the soap curing.  My daughter's friends have said "heaven is in your basement!"  It's fun to see them looking through the soaps, picking them up to smell and being so delighted with the different scents.  Her friends often take a bar home with them when they leave, just 'cause I like them.  :  )

I'm even bartering soap for fresh eggs with the neighbor.  And bartering soap for shipping boxes from the local pizza place.  It's a win-win!

I work at a high school full time, and last week a kid saw me in the hall and said "Val, your soap is amazing!"  Sort of took me by surprise, because I didn't even know he knew about it, let alone used it!  Ok, so he lives with the owner of the pizza place, that's how he got it and used it, but it was funny.  A teenage boy telling me my soap is amazing.  By the way, he was using the Black Raspberry Vanilla, which IS amazing!

Goat's Milk Soap is Here!

The goat's milk soap is ready!!  This new soap has the softest, silkiest feel to it, and smooth, creamy lather.  The scent is a slightly spicy oriental mandarin orange, a very unisex scent that both men and women will adore.

This weekend I've made batch after batch after batch of soap, getting ready for the fall shows and upcoming holidays.  I did another scent in goat's milk today with a frangipani (a Hawaiian flower) scent.  It'll be ready in about 6 weeks, in plenty of time for holiday orders.

I also did a little experiment with scent blending and made a soap I'm gonna call "On the Edge" because the scent is very edgy (a mix of black pepper, peppermint and lemon!).  Sounds strange, but I really like it and I guarantee you won't find it anywhere else!

There's also a scent coming up I'm probably gonna call "Saturday Morning."  One whiff and it'll take you back to those lazy weekend mornings when mom had time to make pancakes.   Mmmmm.  A smooth, buttery maple scent.

Which makes me wonder...I know some people might think it's a little strange to even think about bathing with a food scent, but give it a try!  You're not gonna smell like a pancake all day, but scent is such a powerful memory-link, you just might come to look forward to your "pancake shower."
